The 8th Era New Horizons International Film Festival takes place in the south-western city of Wrocław between July 17 and 27. This year’s edition of the Festival focuses on the review of New Zealand cinema. It also features directors’ retrospectives and the Panorama of Contemporary Cinema.

The 17th edition of the world-class jazz festival - Warsaw Summer Jazz Days – will be inaugurated on June 26 with a concert by Kenny Garret, the American jazz saxophone player. The festival will also feature Pat Metheny, Bobby McFerrin and many other jazz celebrities.

In the early 19th century Polish people were striving for the rebirth of the Polish State. It so happened that Napoleon’s march through Europe, and his stated commitment to the Polish cause, gave them the greatest confidence. A Polish legion fought alongside the French in Napoleon’s campaigns. But in Spain the perception of Napoleon was quite different: the French were perceived as occupiers.

Throughout the day numerous artistic events are scheduled at the Polish Pavilion and throughout the exhibition grounds, culminating in an evening concert featuring prominent performers. These will include internationally acclaimed jazz singer Urszula Dudziak, chanson artist Grzegorz Turnau and jazzman Leszek Możdżer. In ojne of Madrid’s most prestigious concert halls the famous Polish pianist Piotr Anderszewski will give a concert on the eve of Polish Day.

May 13 saw the International Photography Festival in Łódź. Its exhibitions and other events are held in galleries, museums and cultural centres, as well as in former factory buildings and in the city’s showcase Piotrkowska Street. The festival lasts until the end of the month.
