Stołeczna Estrada, a cultural institution of Warsaw and the Warsaw City Council are holding the 4th Cross-Culture Warsaw Festival. This year’s edition of this major festival will take place on September 13 to 21 becoming a complementary event to the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue, as 2008 has been declared by the European Commission. The idea of both is to promote respect for cultural differences and mutual dialogue.

A grand concert of the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra will take place in the Grand Theatre-National Opera on September 1. The orchestra conducted by Marc Minkowski is to perform Anton Bruckner’s Symphony in D minor 'Nullte', Ernest Bloch’s Schelomo Hebraic Rhapsody for cello and orchestra and Henryk Mikołaj Górecki’s – Symphony No.3 Op.36 for soprano and orchestra 'Symphony of Sorrowful Songs'.

Serious consideration is being given in Poland to replace voice-overs by subtitles on foreign films shown on television in order to increase proficiency in foreign languages.

A new festival – the Orange Warsaw Festival – will take place in the Polish capital on September 6. The organizers hope the event will become a fixed point on the map of the most significant European festivals. However, the festival is set to play another important role – it is part of the city’s strategy to win the title of the 2016 European Capital of Culture.

The 16th International Festival of Children’s Folk Ensembles will be held on Sunday in Nowy Sącz in Małopolska in southern Poland. The festival will last for a week bringing performances also to other mountain resorts in Poland such as Krynica-Zdrój, Piwniczna-Zdrój, Muszyna, Łącko and Kamienica.
