Oresteia in Warsaw
Iannis Xenakis’ ‘Oresteia’ directed by Michał Zadara will premiere on March 14 in the theatre Wielki-Opera Narodowa in Warsaw. This production is Zadara’s known for his original classical texts’ interpretations debut in opera directing.

‘Beats of Freedom’ a documentary on the beginning of rock music in Poland will premiere on March 12. The film was directed by Wojciech Słota and Leszek Gnoiński. Chris Salewicz, British journalist with Polish roots fascinated with broadly understood pop-culture, is the narrator in the movie. It was awarded at the Polish Film Festival in Chicago in November 2009.

‘The Romantic Refugee’, an exhibition focused on the 200th birth anniversary of Polish composer Frederic Chopin has opened in the British Library in London.

Following a complete modernisation, a new Frederic Chopin Museum was inaugurated in Warsaw on March 1. Based at the Ostrogski Palace it was described by Polish culture minister Bogdan Zdrojewski as the most modern biographical museum in Europe. Maciek Proliński went to take a look.

A gala of Eagles 2010 Polish Film Awards was held in Warsaw on March 1. The winners were picked in 14 categories by over 500 members of the Polish Film Academy (PAF).

Wojciech Marczewski - Kino Polska Publishing – DVD – English subtitles.
A set of three movies by Wojciech Marczewski, one of the leading directors of the ‘cinema of moral unrest of the late 1970s and 1980s. It includes ‘ Nightmares’ and ‘Shivers’ (about the impact of Stalinism on young Poles) for which he received the Award of the Minister of Culture and Art, and ‘Escape From Liberty Cinema’ (focusing on censorship).
Marczewski is called a master of on-screen moods creating unusual and mysterious plots.
Chopin Year kicks off in Poland
Celebrations have started in Poland of the two hundredth birth anniversary of composer Frederic Chopin. A season of events devoted to his music is planned throughout the year. It will include a series of festivals, the opening of a new Chopin museum in Warsaw and the premiere of a movie which combines Chopin’s music with three dimensional animation.

The Chopin Year Information Centre will be open on February 27 in Kordegarda Gallery, on Warsaw’s main tourist route, Krakowskie Przedmieście Street.
