The Academy of Management (Społeczna Wyższa Szkoła Przedsiębiorczości i Zarządzania), a private University situated in Łódź, the second biggest city in Poland, has been in operation for 12 years. Over these years, the Academy has developed into a modern European university.

The Academy currently employs a staff of more than 400 people, including nearly 60 prominent professors. The number of students has been growing consistently year by year. Full time, evening and extramural studies for the degree of “bachelor” and “masters” as well as postgraduates studies are offered in management and marketing, international relations, finance and banking, English philology, IT, logistics, sociology, journalism and social communication and physiotherapy and that not only in Łódź, but also at the Academy’s out-of-town branches in Warsaw, Ostrów Wielkopolski, Brodnica, Garwolin and Kołobrzeg. The Academy boasts an over 14 000m2–large campus (built entirely from its own funds) encompassing up-to-date workshops (including IT faciltities), halls, library and students’ hotel.

Considering that the Academy has been employing renowned scientists, running a campus, organising conferences and pursuing a wide range of scientific research it became already in 2000 the first private school in Łódź to receive permission for launching master’s studies in management and marketing. Subsequently, master’s studies were opened in international relations in 2002 and in English philology in 2005. Last year, the Academy received the authority to grant PhD degrees in management.
The Academy has established scientific collaboration as well as exchange of staff and students with academic centres in Germany, Portugal, Russia, France, Italy, Ukraine, Canada, and the United States as well as in Brazil and Peru. The Academy’s students and staff have the opportunity of enriching their knowledge within the European Community’s Socrates/Erasmus programme of cooperation between European higher education institutes in Madrid, Cottbus, Perugia, Lisbon and other cities.
The launch of the school’s “Open Academy” project represented an important development in its history. Thanks to the latest remote-education techniques such as transmission of lectures and Internet multimedia communications, studies can now be pursued anywhere in the country.
Very popular are post-graduate studies offered by the Academy in accountancy, career counselling and personnel management.
Conferences and scientific research represent another significant field of the Academy’s activities. Over the years, the Academy organized more than 20 international conferences and received three grants from the State Committee for Scientific Research (KBN) for research on Polish economy's competitiveness and four for own studies. Almost all the Academy’s scientific workers were involved in these research projects.

During the past decade, the Academy of Management in Łódź has entered into scientific partnership with many schools of higher learning in Europe and in America. A number of events during the last academic year reflect the intensity of the Academy’s performance in this field.

High state awards were bestowed by the Polish Prime Minister on the rector as well as lady-chancellor of the Academy. The school has been positively assessed by the State Accreditation Commission for its conduct of master’s studies in management and marketing. A European Medal was awarded to the Academy by the Business Centre Club.
In tandem with Clark University, the Academy of Management is running joint Polish-US studies: more than 300 Polish students study in line with US curriculum standards, attend intensive courses in English for the international TEFL-certificate exam, and finally obtain the “master’s” from the Polish school as well as from the renowned US university. The last semester can be credited for in the United States. The first dozen of graduates received their “master’s” degree last year.

The Academy of Management has also established an Economic Development Research Institute (EEDRI) working under Professor Bogdan Piasecki and Professor Anna Rogut. EEDRI’s partners consist of prestigious R&D units, schools of higher learning and institutions promoting regional policies and innovativeness in various business fields. Due to its involvement in big European research projects, the Institute obtained membership of the European Network for Social and Economic Research (ENSR). Over the past three years of its activities, EEDRI’s research work contributed significantly to the development of science and entrepreneurship. About PLN 25 million have been allocated for the pursuit of the Institute’s projects. That allows for conducting interdisciplinary studies and development works, as well as for drawing up experts’ opinions and carrying out analyses for domestic and international institutions, organizations and companies.

For many years now, the Academy of Management in Łódź has held high positions in rankings of academic schools. It ranked second among Poland’s private universities in the ”Polityka” weekly and the ”Home & Market” monthly, and also second in ”Polityka” as regards studies offered in economics, management and IT. The school was distinguished with the European Medal for its education program pursued together with Clark University. The Academy won several awards in the “Poland Now” competition.
