The average cost of completing 1 kilometre of the motorway – not taking into consideration the costs of building or upgrading three large bridges on Vistula and Drwęca rivers – is EUR 11.7 million. The bridges are to cost additional EUR 191 million.
According to Anna Tomczak of the Gdańsk Transport Company (GTC), the investment covers the construction of 51.7 km section from Nowe Marzy to Lubicz and the modernization and upgrading to motorway standards of 10.7 km more. 1.3 million tons of bituminous mass and 225 thousand cubic meters of concrete will be used in the construction process. 114.5 thousand trees are to be planted – the Ministry of Infrastructure informed in a press release.
“Passenger car drivers will have to pay about PLN 0.2 for using 1 kilometre of the highway” – Cezary Grabarczyk, Minister of Infrastructure, said. His deputy Zbigniew Rapciak estimates that total construction costs of the A1 motorway will reach PLN 25 billion. Two sections are already in use: Rusocin - Swarożyn 25 km and Głuchów - Piotrków Trybunalski 18 km. 101 km is under construction and the development of 120 km more should start this year. Tenders for constructing 238.5 km have been already called.
According to Grabarczyk the proposal to maintain the vignette system for a couple years more would be a good solution. In that case the vignettes would be more expensive but the reimbursements for concession holders would be lower.
The regulation cancelling vignettes and introducing toll is currently under parliamentary debate.
