Three albums recorded with the participation of the Varsovia Symphonic Orchestra were chosen for the German ECHO Klassik 2008 award: "Werke für Trompete" - Gabor Boldoczki, Sinfonia Varsovia (Sony/BMG Sony Classical), "Polish Spirit" - Nigel Kennedy, Polish Chamber Orchestra (EMI Classics) and "Albrecht Mayer. New Seasons" - Albrecht Mayer, Sinfonia Varsovia (Universal/Deutsche Grammophon).

The "Chopin - Preludia. Rafał Blechacz" (Deutsche Gramophon 2007) was also awarded by the German Phonographic Academy (Die Deutsche Phono-Akademie). The official awards ceremony will take place at the Munich Philharmonic on October 19.

Sinfonia Varsovia – the world famous Polish symphonic orchestra is mainly associated with
Yehudi Menuhin and Krzysztof Penderecki, Varsovia’s artistic director since 2003. Both of the artists contributed greatly to its development. The orchestra performs under various conductors often promoting music by Polish composers. The orchestra has also recorded all symphonies by Beethoven, Brahms, Schubert and Schumann, many Baroque, Classic, Romantic and contemporary pieces and movie scores.

Rafał Blechacz – born in 1985 has played the piano since he was 5 years old. He currently studies under Katarzyna Popowa-Zydroń at Bydgoszcz Music Academy. He is the winner of the 15th Frederic Chopin International Piano Festival. He recently released an album of Chopin’s preludes, which won the platinum disc in Poland..
