National budget and public debt
National budget income over the first half of 2008 came to PLN127.6 billion, budget expenses closed at PLN131,0 billion. This means the budget deficit lessened to PLN3.4 billion from PLN3.6 billion in the first half of 2007.
Ecofin abrogates excessive deficit procedure against Poland
PKO BP: On July 8, 2008 Ecofin (the EU finance ministers) in Brussels decided to abrogate the excessive deficit procedure against Poland, in keeping with a European Commission recommendation this June. In recommending the procedure’s closure, the European Commission acknowledged that Poland’s government deficit (2% of GDP in 2007) had been “lastingly and convincingly” lowered to below the deficit limit set by the Maastricht criteria.
