CHAINS BEST SUITED TO SPECIFIC CONDITIONS

2008-08-12
“There are no best existing chains which meet all requirements, however there are chains best suited to specific conditions” – this is motto of Capital Group FASING Plc.
POLISH MARKET talks to Zdzislaw Bik, the company’s President and Managing Director, to discuss its long lasting experience in the chain industry and its plans for the future.
REKLAMA

Capital Group FASING Plc. based in Katowice, Poland, is the world’s leading producer of link chains for the coal mining industry, fishing industry, sugar and cement industries, power plants, steelworks, and agriculture.
“FASING Plc. is a company with long term experience in the branch and we can boast we are celebrating its 95th anniversary this year”, begins Mr Bik.
The city of Katowice where FASING Plc. is located, is the capital of the Upper Silesian Industrial Area, the largest coal basin in Poland. It is the biggest company in Central Europe and one of the biggest in the world in terms of chain production. “There are only a few chain producers in Europe and among them FASING, which won international approval as well as a stronger and stronger position on the market”, he continues.
Although FASING Plc. has only been active on the foreign markets since 2001, it has been operating throughout the world offering its products to more than 200 customers. The chains for the coal mining industry are sold mainly to Germany, Russia, Ukraine, China, Australia and the USA. In February 2006 FASING Plc. established a Polish-Chinese joint venture in China under the name Shandong Liangda Fasing Round Link Chains Co. Ltd to produce the chains exclusively for the Chinese market.
The chains intended for the fishing industry as well as lifting chains have principal recipients in Scandinavia, South America, Australia, USA and South Africa.
Apart from FASING Plc. the group consists of MOJ Plc.- a producer of hydraulic couplings and drilling machines and Forging Plant Osowiec – a manufacturer of steel hot die forgings.
Chains for all conditions
“There are no best existing chains which meet all requirements, however there are chains best suited to specific conditions. The chain selection criteria are supposed to be as follows: the application and type of working environment; regulations and recommendations included in the technical documentation of appliances; and finally the type of natural environment,” explains Mr Bik.
The company offers ten grades of highly resistant mining link chains, which differ in regard to their geometrical and mechanical properties. Depending on the environment, the chains are offered in the following versions: natural (heat treated and calibrated); treated with anti-corrosion oil (12÷18 months); and hot-dip galvanized. The mining link chains are used in armoured face conveyors, ploughs and other conveyors and appliances requiring this type of chain.
The company also offers wear-resistant chains including hardened and case-hardened chains for use in the power industry. The lifting and hoist chains, another type of product made by FASING Plc., are used in the construction industry and other sectors.

“In July 2007 we strengthened our position as the world’s leading chain manufacturer by introducing into our machine park the most modern, completely automated KSH 602D chain welding machine manufactured by WAFIOS AG, Germany. It gives us a unique, repeatable chain welding process with nominal diameters over 50mm. The improved parameters of KSH 602D allow us not only to develop chains with big diameters but will also raise our production capacity of chains as well as increase production efficiency” Mr Bik emphasises.
No weak links
“It is a widely-accepted truth that the whole chain is only as strong as its weakest link. FASING’s experience and repeatability of production based on our integrated quality and environmental management system (ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified by the RW TÜV Systems GmbH in Essen) guarantee the high quality of our products and each of our links. The materials used for production, the production process itself and the final products are supervised and controlled by our Testing Laboratory Complex acknowledged by the Office of Technical Inspection, a national inspection body,” he continues.
The company’s long-term aim is to be the number one chain producer worldwide. According to Mr Bik, FASING’s strength lies in its exceptional quality, experienced and dedicated employees, modern equipment and competitive prices.
“Our success has only been possible owing to the professionalism of our employees and our constant investment in human resources and machines. I am convinced that the adopted programmes connected with our strategy and solid financial basis will bring the desired results and prosperity. The long-term business forecast is very promising for us as it shows that the mining industry will flourish within the next 10 years.”
