Potential investors in ‘advanced talks’ with Polish Ministry of Treasury on acquisition of ailing shipyards
The Ukrainian ISD Group has restructuring plans for the shipyards in Gdynia and Gdańsk, while the Mostostal consortium might acquire the shipyard in Szczecin. The European Commission gave Poland until September 12 to present a final recovery program for the ailing shipyards. The Polish Minster of Treasury has expressed hope that the shipyards in Gdynia and Szczecin will be privatized by the end of this month.
ISD is to send the EC its amended restructuring proposals by Friday. According to ISD’s plan the shipyards in Gdańsk and Gdynia would merge. Zdzisław Gawlik, Deputy Treasury Minister told the Polish Press Agency that another meeting should take place in Brussels next week. ‘Then the EC will decide if the investor has met its recommendations posed yesterday and pinpoint those parts of the plans which need to be corrected or improved’, Gawlik said.
According to the Deputy Minister of Treasury representatives of Mostostal Chojnice did not participate in yesterday’s meeting in Brussels. One more consultative meeting attended by a delegation from Mostostal is to be held later this week. The company has already sent its restructuring proposals of the Szczecin shipyard to the EC.
