Polish business sponsors culture
The award ceremony of the 1st edition of the ‘Polish Culture Benefactors’ competition was held at the Royal Castle in Warsaw on November 26. The competition is a joint initiative of the Royal Castle and the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
This year’s winners are: Bertelsmann Foundation and Monika and Janusz Palikot Foundation (category: Benefactor), Polish Digital Telephony and PZU S.A., Insurance Company (category: Sponsor), Olsztyn Newspaper (category: Media Patron). The winners were selected from 172 applications by a Jury appointed by Bogdan Zdrojewski, Polish Minister of Culture and National Heritage, consisting of Barbara Borys – Damięcka (Theatre Managers Society, Chairman), Agnieszka Morawińska PhD (director of Zachęta National Art Gallery), Andrzej Rottermund (director of the Royal Castle in Warsaw), Andrzej Wajda (Oscar winning world-famous movie director) and Antoni Wit (conductor, director of the National Philharmonic in Warsaw).
The title ‘Polish Culture Benefactor’ – a statuette and a diploma – is the highest distinction
awarded to persons and institutions supporting Polish cultural projects. The objective of the competition is to bring out the role of institutions and private people in supporting and developing the cultural life in Poland and popularizing financial support to culture from sources other than state budget.
The award is granted in three categories:
• Benefactor - for co-creating collections, depositing work of art, donating buildings and lots or rendering them accessible for cultural aims, continuous co-sponsoring institutions or recurring cultural events, funding prizes, scholarships, establishing foundations or cultural institutions, supporting renovation of a castle as seat of a cultural institution, renovating works of art, funding technical equipment for institutions of culture, gathering own art collection.
• Sponsor – for financing an exhibition, performance, event, festival, competition, art camp, publication etc.
• Media Patron
