Gliwice Energoprojekt power plant wins "Be Inspired" in USA

2009-10-21

Energoprojekt Gliwice, an engineering company providing solutions for traditional power generating sector based on fossil fuels and developing solar energy and bioethanol fuel producing plants, won an award in the Power Generation category in the prestigious "Be Inspired" competition for the most innovative infrastructure project organized by Bentley Systems USA, wnp.pl reports.

Energoprojekt Gliwice based in the southern industrial basin of Silesia, was awarded for their design of a heat-generating solar power plant PS-20 in Sanlucar la Mayor (Spain). Over 250 projects were entered for this year’s competition.

PS-20 is a solar power plant built in tower technology for Abengoa corporation in Spain. 1,255 mirrors, each with a surface of 120m2, follow the sun and focus solar energy on a steam-generating bank of a solar boiler placed in the upper part of the 162-meter-high installation. Saturated steam produced from a stream of concentrated solar energy is sent to a turbine where it expands generating electric energy. To guarantee continuous operation the system is equipped with a steam accumulator which allows it to work for almost an hour in cloudy weather.

PS-20 is one of the plants of the Solar Platform which should be completed in 2013 and is expected to produce enough electricity from solar energy to cover the needs of 180,000 houses and apartments in Seville located 25 kilometres away. Energoprojekt Gliwice is an active partner in the innovative project, wnp.pl informs.
