2010-02-03

A nomination for the Academy Award for Polish documentary ‘Rabbit à la Berlin’ by Bartek Konopka, in the short films category, has been announced in Los Angeles.

The documentary is an international co-production between Polish Television and German
MDR, RBB and ARTE.

Bartek Konopka tells the story of wild rabbits which for 28 years lived around the Berlin Wall. The rabbits are a metaphor of the citizens of Eastern Europe – shaped under communism and still learning how to live in a free world.

‘Rabbit à la Berlin’ was picked as best documentary at the 21st Polish Film Festival in the US. The movie also won the Best Mid-Length Documentary at Hot Docs Toronto 2009 Festival, the Magic Hour Award at Planete Doc Review Warsaw 2009 and the Grand Prix at the 49th Kraków Film Festival 2009.
