Kids online are at risk in Poland
Poland was classified as a country with high risk for children using the Internet, a report quoted by ‘Rzeczpospolita’ shows.
More than half of Polish children getting online have received messages with sexual content. In comparison only 10% of the youngest German internet users have received similar messages. Online violence and releasing personal details are other problems noted in Poland, wnp.pl reports. Over 20% of Polish children using the internet have met with persons met online. The authors of the report say that the high risk is a result of a large number of children getting online in Poland (89%, EU average – 75%).
The authors on the report advise parents to use filtering methods and block access to certain websites and applications.
EU Kids Online (2006-09) is a thematic network examining European research on cultural, contextual and risk issues in children’s safe use of the internet and online technologies. It has been funded by the European Commission’s Safer Internet Plus Programme (DG Information Society and Media), coordinated by the London School of Economics and Political Science and guided by international and national policy advisors.
